Another…well perhaps not so much commonly used as weaponry; however, it was used as weaponry, and is still used as weaponry today, though a lot of our toki actually have metal blades. But this was a toki that was made for us by Warren Warbrick from Te Manawa in Palmerston North. It was made traditionally, so all of the bindings, and all of the materials…it is based on the toki that our tīpuna have used. But once again, as Dion mentioned before, we do have an exponent at Te Papa Tongarewa, Tamahou Temara, from Ngāi Tuhoe, who’s favourite weapon is the toki. In particular not this particular toki, but as I say this is one of our toki. Any instances you can recall of toki being used Dion?

Basically its got a short takakau, and usually has a pounamu… toki which is set at the top. They’re super significant taonga as you well know. In days of old the only persons to possess them were our aristocracy, as in our people of noble…nobility. So, koina.

Erana: Kia ora. So that’s the toki
