You should be training twice a day, and you want to spend at least two hours training in some form, whether it be on the water, be in the gym, but often in some sessions you’d be on the water for three hours in the morning, and maybe spending another hour and a half, two hours on the water or in the gym in the afternoon.

The total number of hours you could spend on a week, actual training, and I mean actually training, is between 20 and 35 hours a week. It’s a significant commitment if you want to go for the highest level. You don’t necessarily have to do that though in the early stages, and I would suggest that anything from 10 to 15, maybe 20 hours a week, in your sport will be enough to just get you going, and once you make those big decisions whether you want to go further than that, then you’d probably have to make a bigger commitment.
