I didn’t actually take up rowing though until after school. During my school days, and look this is really important guys and girls, you don’t necessarily have to focus on one sport at school. I would suggest you try a smattering of activities, try everything there is. I don’t mean just sporting either, I mean cultural, art, whatever.
Try a whole group of things, that’s what school is there to teach you, there is so much out there, and I think in some cases it’s detrimental to focus too much on rugby, or too much on your art, or too much on your mathematics, you’ve got to get a smattering of everything. And I certainly did that in my sporting, I played volleyball, basketball, tried a bit of rugby, a bit of cricket, I was absolutely diabolical at cricket. But you know, gave it all a shot and enjoyed it, and I developed my skill range accordingly. And I think it’s really important that you do that, and have a go at painting, if you find you are really good at it, you might do it a bit more and jingoes, who knows what might come from that.
