Richard:
This is a piece of chain mail that we created for the film. Two young guys, only a couple of years older than you, sat for three and a half years - so this is 12 hours a day, 5 to 6 days a week - at a table like this, never raising their heads from their work other than for their half-hour lunch break, and hand assembled 12 and a half million rings of chain mail, this size.
They did it for so long that their thumb-prints came completely detached off the end of their thumbs. And not once did they complain, not once did they stop doing their work, not once did they get up from their desks in three and a half years. Because their sole inspiration was the passion to see this product on the screen on Lord of the Rings.
That is the most extreme - but it's a good example of the level of dedication that's expected of you. It's an extremely competitive world and you've got to go after, er, what you desire.
So, to all of you, think of those two guys toiling away and really pursue your careers because ultimately there's great riches out there for you if you do.
