There are thousands of percussion instruments from all around the world. In an orchestra, there are about 75 basic percussion instruments, like the triangle or the gong, that we have to know how to play at any time. And because there are so many different instruments, there is a tremendous amount of variety. I am never bored or I don’t feel I have to leave. I feel sorry for the violinist, or the flute player, all they ever do is play the violin. How boring is that? I get to play all these cool instruments. And so if I ever left an orchestra it would be because I die or retire, because there is too much fun and there is just too much variety.
