The word percussion means to strike, and that’s how these musical instruments make their sounds in a symphony orchestra, or a dance band, or a rock’n roll band. Anything that you hit, including when you clap your hands, that becomes a percussion instrument. So, as I said to one of the schools earlier, everybody without perhaps knowing it, is a percussionist in some way. If you play the pots and pans with some spoons in your kitchen, or if you clap at a concert you go to see, that makes you a percussionist. So it’s an instrument that everyone can immediately enjoy, and begin learning very quickly and easily.
