Every idea has its own length and there is a right length for your particular idea. Make the writing as economical as possible, and write what you know. There is a big difference between the stories which were authentic, and the ones which were derivative. People had written about things they had seen or heard on movies or books. If your story isn’t real to you it won’t be real to the reader. Remember that. Write what you know.
