Why be a journalist?

For me it’s the fact that I learn something every day. It might be a small thing or it might be a big thing, but I’m talking to the most extraordinary people everyday who are passionate about what they do and I love the fact that no day is ever the same. In all the 20 plus years I’ve done it, every day is entirely different. Not all of them are good days mind you, but most of them are. So when you spend your day talking to people who are gifted, and you’re helping to tell the country about, what they do, that’s a pretty fine job in my view, so I love that, and I’m sure I can do this for another 20 years if they’ll have me, and I’ll keep learning, which is fabulous.

It’s just such a fun thing to be able to chat to people all day long (laughs), and that’s basically what we do, and you know I’ve been able to travel and just meet so many interesting people, so yeah, that’s definitely the best part of it.
