- If you weren’t in Wellington where would you work and why?
- Lynn
Oh it’s easy for me. I’m actually from Dunedin and worked there until 11 years ago, and then I’d been the chief reporter of the radio station there, didn’t want to work for the Otago Daily Times, had done some TV work with regional television, wasn’t really my thing, and to further my career in radio I really had to come to Wellington so it was simple as that. But quite honestly, because I love the arts I would, to me Wellington is the right place to be. Auckland’s got some great arts going on I must say, really impressive, in the theatre particularly, but Wellington really is a cultural centre and I’m a theatre critic and … during festival time I can be out every night for four weeks which is insane, but even during an ordinary week, I’ll usually be out seeing at least two plays a week which is really exciting when you love theatre as much as I do. So for me it’s definitely Wellington for career and for my, my passion for the Arts.
- Julie
Yeah, really depends what you want to do. I think a lot of the magazine work is in Auckland, in fact, I would say sort of 99 per cent of it is in Auckland. If that’s your passion then that’s the place to go to for that, but like Lynn says for arts reporting definitely I think Wellington is, … is really good. There’s so much sort of theatre and all sorts going on down here that isn’t necessarily in the rest of the country.
