I’ve got Basil Keane here from Ngāti Kahungunu and he’s going to be showing us around the Te Ara website, our encyclopaedia website which is online. Hīkoi i Te Ara nei, kia uru atu, kia whakapā atu ki ō koutou kāwai rangatira ā-iwi, ā-Māori hoki. So, Te Ara is the New Zealand encyclopaedia. It was named Te Ara basically because it’s like a pathway. You can come through and whatever destination you are going, whether you want to find out about your Māoritanga or your iwi, then you can take that particular path.
To get on to it, there are a couple of ways. Ko tētahi, ko www.teara.govt.nz. And an easier way to remember it, me pēnei, www.teara.com which is a bit easier to get there.
Nā, e rua ngā wāhanga o te mātāpunenga nei i tēnei wā. Ko tētahi ko ngā kōrero mō ngā iwi Māori, ko tētahi he kōrero mō Tauiwi mā kua tau mai ki konei ki Aotearoa. So, at the moment we have two main parts to the site. One part is Māori in terms of iwi and certain Māori traditions. And on the other side we have other arrivals from other countries and their stories.
So, the other thing that you’ll notice is that at the moment we are in English, but by clicking on this button up here then it will translate into Māori. The whole site isn’t translated, just those ones that are specifically relating to Māori.
