With the reduction of sea ice how will that affect the krill levels of the minke whale?

Jo McVeaigh

So climate and the effects of acidification of our oceans is something that we don't even know the full effect of what is going to happen there and it is something we are finding out on a continuing process. Things like climate change have an effect on the migration patterns of migrating animals, and whales migrate annually so they will have an effect. Over-fishing: we have seen, two years ago, a fin whale washed up in the Baltic Sea because it had died of starvation and if a whale can die of starvation in our oceans then we know that our oceans are in serious trouble. Pollution: a whale washed up dead in Norway with around 800 kilograms of plastic bags in its stomach. And that had killed it because of the huge amount of pollution that is going on in our oceans. Also the toxics that are being dumped in our oceans as well; in Norway pregnant woman are told not to eat whale meat because there is so high levels of toxins in the meat. So in such a degraded ocean, whales need our protection now more than ever before.
