What breeds of whales are hunted?
- Jo McVeaigh

Well at the moment the main ones that are hunted are the minke whales. Also fin whales which are endangered, there is also a quota for 10 fin whales from Japan for the summer just been, but they are trying to increase that to 50 which we would want to try and stop, because fin whales are endangered, and also the other species that are pretty controversial at the moment are the humpback whales. At the moment humpback whales aren't hunted, but Japan would like to take 50 humpback whales from the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary next summer. That is a really big issue because humpbacks are a ‘taonga’ to a lot of people around the Pacific and are really big in terms of the whale watching industry, so we are going to be working as hard as we can, to stop that humpback hunt this summer. So the three main species are the minke, the fin, and the humpback.
