Question:
How will you be preserving your fresh food?
Donald

What actually happens is that you put it in the freezer. You need a freezer because the temperature in a freezer is constant. If you are in the field you can actually dig a hole and in the dry valleys for instance, where is no snow or ice, there was actually a hole in the ground blown with explosives years ago, and that was our freezer. We had a trap door and we went down into the ground and kept things there. At Cape Hallett when we did this, we had a pile of snow and we just put things like salami and bacon that we’d taken with us, we put it in the snow, but the trouble was the snow melted and the skewers would find them. So you would find a skewer would eat a whole salami, you know what they look like, one that isn’t cut. When you watch a skewer choking down a whole salami in one go, and then trying to take off, it can be really funny. You can actually see the shape of the salami in its body. But the funny thing was, the Skewer actually spent about the next week just standing next to a puddle of water and drinking. Even after a week it was still thirsty after eating a whole salami.
