Treaty of Waitangi
With Te Papa Director History and Pacific cultures Dr Claudia Orange

Dr Orange is a renowned historian. Her book, The Treaty of Waitangi (1987), has transformed national understanding of the importance of the Treaty. Her Illustrated History of the Waitangi Treaty was published in 2004. It tracks the changes in the 20th Century and especially in the last 25 years.
As general editor of the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography, Dr Orange has contributed enormously to the shaping of national identity. She was also Acting Chief Historian at the Department of Internal Affairs from 1997 to 2000, and has worked on the online encyclopaedia of New Zealand for the Ministry for Culture and Heritage.
Now as Director of History and Pacific Cultures, Dr Orange is responsible for leading the research, curatorial, and collection management functions of the Te Papa teams whose responsibility it is to take care of many of our national treasures.
Join our videoconference to talk to Claudia and special guests in a panel discussion about a bicultural perspective to the Treaty of Waitangi. Encourage your students to have some questions ready to ask our panellists.
