Olympics composer John Psathas
John Psathas is a New Zealand composer of high-energy percussion music and larger-scale concertante works. John wrote and arranged much of the music for the opening ceremony of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. His fanfare for the opening of Te Papa was recorded by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and came to the attention of the organizing committee in the course of a worldwide search.

Follow-up session: Workshop for Teachers of Music
Tuesday 16 August, 11.00am to 12.00pm
Teachers will have previously submitted a maximum of 2 pieces of their students' work to John for comments. From the total number of compositions received only one or two works will be chosen to explore in depth during the VC. Please submit scores and recordings of student compositions – recordings on CD and scores as paper and pdf files (so we can bring them up on screen when talking). Recordings and Sibelius 3 Professional Notation Software are preferable.
John will respond to questions and give advice on how to help students compose and move forward with a piece of music. Compositions can be sent to digitalconversations@cwa.co.nz, and posted to P.O. Box 19090, Wellington.
